Do you wonder how I transition from virtual car photography to real-life car photography? Yup. Excellent - Here's how I got into photographing cars in real life.
Prologue
Before I got into photographing cars, I ran a YouTube channel called Ferrarinator. I made videos on the Forza Motorsport and Horizon franchise, where I raced and hooned the cars. That sounds fun!
At the peak of my YouTube channel, Ferrarinator achieved 300 followers. I reached a point of burnout. For two years, I didn't have a consistent internet presence.
Instead, After coming home from school, I went on my Xbox one and played Forza Horizon or Motorsport. At the same time, listening to YouTube videos.
Virtual Car Photography
I began to photograph the cars I owned in each Forza saga, whether that's a dramatic night track day shot or a calming landscape. Yup!
I learned various valuable techniques, such as lowering the camera for a better angle of the subject and experimenting with fast to slow shutter speeds.
I also began to use Photo-Processing apps like Photoshop and Snapseed to sharpen. And use gradient maps to give the pictures an experimental touch to my work.
My Car Photography transition
In July 2018, My Dad threw me the gauntlet of making an Instagram channel of Dylan, The Golden Doodle. The catch was, I needed to get 1,000 followers before the school holidays. I took the challenge.
I struggled with creating content for the Dylan Doodle channel. So Dad gave me his Nikon and said, "Let's get some pictures of Dylan on our walk". I thought, "Great idea"!
In eight days, I reached My Dad's goal of 1,000 followers on Instagram. Though I learned an incredible amount from Dylan Doodle 007's social media channel, I took my knowledge from the dog genre into different categories.
Conclusion
My transition from virtual car photography to photographing cars in the flesh was a significant crossroads. When it's my penultimate year of school, thinking about college. I needed to make a great decision.
During that time, I finished my first year of computer science. Between all this turbulence - I relaxed by screenshotting my photos from the Forza Horizon and Motorsport saga.
I learnt the basic of photographing cars, such as lowering the camera to get a better perspective and changing the saturation to make the car pop. Indeed!
On my final day of school, My Dad gave me the challenge of getting his dog Dylan, the Golden Doodle, up to 1,000 before the Summer Holidays end. I fulfilled the test that Dad set me - I learned so much on managing a social media channel and branding.
That's how I got into photographing cars in real life!
