How do I find cars to photograph

Do you want to know how I find cars to photograph? Nope. We're not talking to you, still here's how I find cars to shoot.

Visit Car showrooms

Until March 2020, a majority of my content came from photographing at car dealerships. You'll need to look very professional and ask the showroom if you take pictures of the cars.

They reply with "yes please" and sometimes reply with "no thank you". I keep clear of going in the car's interior because I don't want to ruin the detailer's work.

Most of my car showroom photography content's took outside because I've got more space around the car, and I've got better lighting. Thumbs up!

Although, the backdrops in car showrooms aren't as pleasing to the eye as going to a car meet or setting up a shoot. You get a greater variety of vehicles to photograph.

Go to car meets

In March 2020, I began photographing at more local car meets before the first wave of the pandemic. Unlucky. Fortunately, we met Ben with his Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition and staged a photoshoot before lockdown.

Thankfully in June 2020, My Dad came across Ben, and he told Dad, "I've got a mini Vauxhall Corsa VXR and do you and your son want to come?" Jonny said, "yes."

That photoshoot saved my channel, and we ended up doing more photoshoots with Ben's Corsa VXR.

But, what I learned from this is if you ask the car owner if you can take pictures of their cars and the photos look excellent, you build a quality connection and meet more people. Fantastic!

Offer car owners my leaflets

When I come across cars that I love in the wild, I introduce myself to the car owner and give them my leaflet. Or, I leave my leaflet on their car's windscreen.

Though, I don't expect the person that owns the vehicle to message me. If the owner likes what I do, they can visit my website or social media channels and later message me to stage a photo shoot.

Conclusion

Before I started photographing cars, I had little idea of how people find fun cars to photograph. Over the last two years, I've transitioned from mainly photographing at car showrooms to meeting people at car meets and getting most of my content there.

Though, my leaflets provide me with not too many shoots. It gives me a better chance to network with event organisers and gets me invited to certain track events.
