Why do I like hot hatchbacks? They're fast. From the Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition to the Toyota GR Yaris - Find out why I like these pocket rocks.

Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition

Are you rolling in the deep? Nope. Why not. Before the first Lockdown, I met Ben, the owner of this Vauxhall Corsa VXR Nurburgring Edition at a local car meet.

The next Saturday we arranged a photoshoot of Ben's Corsa VXR Nurburgring at Crewe Hall. The photos came out incredibly! Ben also, asked me if I can do a Corsa VXR shoot at Crewe Hall in June. Triple the fun.

Recently, Ben asked me to do a socially-distanced rolling shot photoshoot of his Corsa VXR on the dual-carriageway. Interestingly, photographing the Corsa VXR at the back of my Dad's car and the feeling of wind blowing past my face.

Toyota GR Yaris

What car do you think will mark the 2020's? Lotus Evija. The Evija feels like a tall and opulent skyscraper. But, it doesn't feel obtainable to any mere mortal.

May I introduce to you - the Toyota GR Yaris. With its rally pedigree, potent 3-cylinder turbo engine and purposeful driving dynamics. The GR Yaris is no joke.

Initially, I wasn't going to post this picture on my social media channels, but time and the rare opportunity to shoot this Toyota GR Yaris before customers got their hands on this pocket rocket.

Ford Focus RS MK1

Would you want to rally this Ford Focus RS through the Monte Carlo forest? Yup. That's a foregone conclusion - With it's all-wheel-drivetrain, and active driving dynamics.

I came across this Focus RS in the car park at Oulton Park. It caught my eyes. How could I not photograph this Ford Focus RS? As a bonus, the Ford parked in a picturesque location.

Audi RS3 Sportback

Do you want to spend 24 houRS with this Audi RS3 Sportback? No. That's what I thought - I'd rather spend yeaRS getting to know the RS3 Sportback and taming this beast on the road.

I came across this Audi RS3 in the used section of Stoke Audi, and the decluttered location made me consider shooting this Audi. Why spend extra minutes removing lamposts and trees?

The Mystic Black paintwork gave a sleek and slim appearance to this RS3 Sportback. Then I introduced a warm palette of colours to give a warm summer vibe in this picture.

Ford Fiesta ST

Would you spec this Ford Fiesta ST in Spirit Blue? Yes. Me too - The Spirit Blue finish looks terrific on the Fiesta ST in the daylight, but the golden hour light gives the Ford Fiesta ST a timeless touch.

I came across this Fiesta ST at Oulton Park in the evening, and we had breathtaking light. I asked the owner if I could photograph his Fiesta and he said "yes" enthusiastically!

After I photographed the Ford Fiesta ST owners car; I gave him my leaflet, and he told me "my neighbours have nice cars and I'd like some more brochures to share them". I said, "sure".

Citroen Saxo Cup

Do you love the style of the BBS rims on the Citroen Saxo Cup? Nah. I doubt so - With its many spokes and opulent appearance - It put a massive smile on my face.

I had other Citroen Saxo's to photograph in the JSCC Paddock area at Oulton Park - I took notice of the clean appearance of this Saxo Cup against the Bus equalled a delightful picture.

Conclusion

Hot hatchbacks provide a potent, practical, fun into a pocket rocket package: From the striking Toyota GR Yaris to the funky Saxo Cup. There's loads of variety.

I hope the next generation of hot hatchbacks and Compact Performance Crossovers carry the fun torch.
